Season 2 Showcase 2024

june 7th & 8th

generationsperformingartstoronto

Showcase is one of the busiest and most exciting times at Generations!

We believe that the opportunity to perform allows dancers to develop their confidence, teamwork skills, and work ethic all while increasing their dance technique and artistry skills. But all of this can be stressful. This page is here to help you and your family have a positive Showcase experience. Please ask us any questions you have.

showcase makeup

We encourage all dancers to wear a small amount of makeup on stage to help accentuate their features.

  • Students 7 and under recommendation: Pink lipstick.

  • Students 8 and up recommendation: Pink lipstick, pink blush, mascara and pink eyeshadow.

  • Musical Theatre Students recommendation: Refer to your individual character notes from your teachers.

showcase hair

We ask that all showcase dancers & First Musical Theatre students come with their hair done prior to their arrival for showcase. Junior Musical Theatre (The Rainbow Fish) and Youth Musical Theatre (The Magical Land of Oz) will have specific hair as per their characters.

NEW THIS YEAR: If needed, we invite you to come to the studio on the morning of JUNE 8TH between 9:30am and 10:30am to have someone braid your child’s hair. Please bring you own comb, hair pins, elastics and hairspray.

All dancers age 3 are requested to have their hair pulled back securely off the face in a slicked bun, pony tail, braids or corn rows.

All dancers age 4+ are requested to have one or more french braids, corn rows or dutch braids, tucked in at the bottom for long hair.

Dancers with bangs are encouraged to have them styled. Dancers with short hair, or hair that is unable to be braided, we encourage you to pin and slick it securely off your face.

showcase flowers and keepsakes

For many families, giving flowers to performers is a tradition. Flowers are available to purchase through the below link by San Fiori Events and Floral (one of our awesome parents!) ahead of time and some will be available for purchase the day of the Showcase should you wish to partake in this tradition. The table will be set up inside the venue lobby for pick up/purchase. We also have Generations Squish Mallows & Draw String Bags available for purchase as a keepsake (limited supplies). All flower pre-orders must be placed by May 29th, 2024. Some bouquets and roses will be available to purchase on a first come first serve basis day of the show.

attendance

Attendance at this stage in preparation for the Showcase is vital to a positive performance experience. Students who miss more than 3 classes after March Break will be contacted by our staff. This is a team effort and every performer is important to the process. It is at the teacher's discretion whether a student with 3 absences may still perform.

showcase tickets

We have 250 tickets per show, with no assigned seating. Your children will be performing in BOTH SHOWS. Please note: Tiny Dancers are ONLY in the 12:30pm Saturday afternoon showcase. You do not have to purchase tickets to both performances, only the showcases you wish to attend. All students will be backstage with supervision. Tickets go on sale Monday, April 8th at 7am.

Tickets are $25 + HST & FEES to help offset the costs of putting on a wonderful showcase weekend. Children 2 and under who sit on an adult’s lap are free. *Any dancers watching Act 2 after they perform do not require a ticket (seating permitting).

Drop Off:
Please arrive at the York Woods Library Theatre in your 30 minute window for each showcase with your performer fully dressed in their costume with hair and makeup done (showcase day only). If your child is in more than one class, refer to the running order to note which costume they should arrive in. One parent/adult may bring their performer to their assigned dressing room door. After you drop off your performer please head to the audience for seating. All performers are expected to stay for the entire performance (with the exception of Tiny & Mini Dancers). Our staff and teachers will be present with the students at all times.

Students Watching: Any performers in Act 1 only are invited to watch the performance in the audience (no ticket required) after intermission, seating permitting. Parents may gather their performers at the dressing room door during intermission and leave their belongings in the dressing room.

The expectation is that all performers stay for Act 2 for the 12:30pm & 7pm Saturday shows as they’ll be invited back on stage for the final bows, announcements & medals.

Medals: If your child was with us in Season 1 (2022/23) please bring your medal with you to Showcase A (with a name or initial label) as they will receive a special season 2 badge. All new students will receive a medal.

Pickup: Parents will pick performers up from the dressing room after the final bows. You may leave your belongings in the dressing room between shows.

TINY DANCERS ONLY: One parent of each of our tiny dancers is asked to stay with their performer backstage until it’s time to go on stage, when you can head out to watch. You may collect them to at the dressing room door once they have performed to watch the rest of the show with you, and to run back on stage for final bow/medals.

between showcases

There is very limited time between showcases due to the nature of the rental. We request you plan ahead, pack a meal to bring, head outside or into the library lobby to rest and eat before signing back in. If you’d like your child to stay with us between shows, please let us know at drop off when you check in for the fist showcase, we will have faculty and staff on hand to supervise students. Pack extra snacks and bring an old t-shirt or something to cover up their costume when eating a snack.
